Miller Motorsports Park Preparing for World Superbike Weekend

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (April 30, 2010) -- One month from today, one of the world's biggest racing series, the FIM Superbike World Championship presented by HANNspree, will be making its third appearance at Miller Motorsports Park. This year's edition of the Lucas Oil Utah USA Round will be the most ambitious yet, and the details of the multi-faceted event are dovetailing nicely.

The weekend will kick off on Friday, May 28, with a press conference on the steps of the Utah State Capitol at 4:30 p.m., at which Governor Gary R. Herbert is expected to greet the visiting racers, assembled dignitaries and hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts. Following the press conference, a parade of motorcycles that will include eight World Superbike riders on their race machines and to which the motorcycle-riding public is invited to participate will make its way from the State Capitol to the Gateway Mall.

A pre-event party at The Gateway will follow, with the racers signing autographs, live music, sky divers, stunt riders and a variety of interactive displays. Rio Grande Street, which bisects The Gateway, will be closed to all but motorcycle traffic for the event, which is scheduled to last from 5:00 p.m. -- 9:00 p.m.

All the action moves to the racetrack in Tooele on Saturday. Following the first practice sessions, Miller Motorsports Park will host the "United in Rock" classic rock concert with Foreigner, Styx and Kansas performing from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Qualifying for the Superbike World Championship and Supersport World Championship will take place on Sunday, along with the first of two races for the Lucas Oil Superbike Challenge.

The Superbike World Championship will have two feature races on Monday, along with one for the Supersport World Championship and one for the Lucas Oil Superbike Challenge.

In addition to the racing, there will be a staggering variety of other activities for fans to enjoy. These will include pit walks, post-qualifying and post-race interviews and autograph sessions that are open to fans, stunt bike and BMX demonstrations, demonstrations from the Lucas Off Road Racing Series that will have its debut MMP appearance in June, flyovers by the Lucas Oil Stunt Plane, 2-up rides on motorcycles from the Yamaha Champions Riding School (limited availability), parade laps for motorcyclists, a barbecue competition, a car show and karting at the Miller Kart Track.

Since it will be Memorial Day Weekend, the track is honoring all active-duty and veteran military personnel, as well as civilian personnel who serve our communities such as policemen, firemen, paramedics and teachers. There will be a Tribute Field of 2,010 American flags in the track's infield, and a huge display of informative and entertaining displays, activities and equipment provided by the various branches of the military. Opening ceremonies for the feature races on Monday will include a flyover by four F-16 fighter jets, compliments of Hill Air Force Base.

"We're very excited about this year's World Superbike weekend," said John Larson, general manager of Miller Motorsports Park. "This is the biggest event we've ever produced. We have added a lot of family-friendly entertainment to complement the racing, and our tribute to the military and civilian personnel who serve our communities will be very special. We hope that this event will become a Memorial Day tradition for Utah, equivalent to the Indianapolis 500 or Kentucky Derby."
