Javi suffers in the wet
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Javi Fores was one of many victims in a rain-affected race at Imola today. The race was stopped after fourteen laps due to rain and then restarted, with the times from the two parts aggregated to determine the result. When the times were added together, it was local favourite Gianluca Nannelli (Ducati) who emerged the winner, just over two seconds ahead of Kevin Curtain (Yamaha) and Alessio Corradi (Ducati).
Javi Fores was hit by another rider in the first race, but remounted his GSX-R600 - albeit in last place. He then stormed his way up superbly though the field and was in 12th place when the race was red-flagged due to rain. The rain then fell steadily for the second part and, although Javi had made a good start, he slipped off in the treacherous conditions at the first chicane. This time, he was unable to get back on his bike and so failed to score any points.
Javi - DNF
I think today is one to forget. Qualifying had gone very well and I was convinced that I was on for a good result. But the weather (and being hit by somebody!) changed everything and ruined all the good work we had done. Two crashes in one race is more then enough, I think. I think our recent work is going to pay some dividends at Magny-Cours. I hope that the weather will be good and that qualifying will go as well as it did here. It would be good to finish the season on an up, and that is my intention.
