Steve Martin had hoped for a better weekend at Brands Hatch in England. A huge 126,000 strong crowd turned out in the sunshine to witness what's proving to be Britain's favourite sporting event. Unfortunately for Steve, it turned out to be a weekend he'd rather forget!

"I knew it was going to be a tough weekend," said Steve "I had a lot of qualifying tyres to test and while that's a job that has to be done it actually effected my race result. I didn't get the time I needed to test race tyres and I didn't make the best tyre choice for the race itself."

Mechanical problems hampered his performance in race one, forcing him backwards down the order. He finished a disappointing 18th in race one. "The problems in race one compounded my tyre choice dilemma because I hadn't been able to run the tyres at real race speeds. In race two I decided to go for the same tyre and that proved to be a mistake. I ran as hard as I could and was right on the edge but still only managed to get 16th. It's not been my most memorable weekend of the year!"

On the positive side Steve was again the only Pirelli tyres rider to make it into Superpole and finished up with 14th on the grid.

"We've got some testing to do before Oschersleben during the summer break, but I'll also try to get in a bit of r&r before then!"
