Jeffreys and Connor make it third time lucky on Wales Rally GB

Huw Jeffreys and Avarina Connor had success on the third time of asking as they completed Wales Rally GB this weekend (29 November -- 2 December).

Cross Hands driver Jeffreys and Llanon co-driver Connor finished 71st overall in their Group N Subaru Impreza backed by Activair by Trianco Boilers, Swansea Plumbpoint, W Doyle Transport and Huw Jeffreys & Son, Plumbing and Heating Engineers following three-days of forest gravel action on the Swansea-based event, which was the final round of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

The Aberystwyth Motor Club crew had contested the rally twice before in 2004 and 2006 and both times failed to finish, but they achieved their aim of making it third time lucky in 2007 despite enduring their fair share of problems.

On the first leg on Friday the pair narrowly avoided an off when they spun in the opening stage and knocked a bank. The weather conditions worsened in the afternoon but they battled through the torrential rain and fog up in Resolfen and Rheola although they had to stop twice in one stage, as they couldn't see where they were going.

On Saturday misfortune struck when on the way out to the first stage of the day the rear diff broke and Jeffreys and Connor had to return to service to repair it before rejoining the event under SupeRally rules on Sunday morning.

The final leg ran relatively smoothly for the crew as they completed their first Wales Rally GB as they made it to the finish ramp in Cardiff.

"We're delighted to have completed our first Wales Rally GB on the third attempt," said Jeffreys, who lives 16 miles from Swansea. "It was certainly tough though, particularly on the first day with the extreme weather, but we both really enjoyed it.

"It's a real shame the diff broke on Saturday before we got started and we had to sit out the leg. It was such a minor problem to fix and the lads at D & C Rallying, who prepare the car, did such a great job in getting it sorted. Thankfully we were able to rejoin the rally under SupeRally and contest the final four stages on Sunday and get a result.

"We'd like to thank the companies who supported us specifically on Wales Rally GB including: CNC, Caffi Rhiannon and GAP Tool Hire in addition to our regular sponsors Activair by Trianco Boilers, Swansea Plumbpoint and W Doyle Transport."

Wales Rally GB was the final event for Jeffreys and Connor in the 2007 season. They will next be in action on the Red Kite Stages in January.
