Volkswagen insists emission scandal won't affect WRC programme

Volkswagen team boss Jost Capito dismissed all speculation regarding its participation in the WRC in the wake of the emission scandal that has rocked the German manufacturer.

Although VW is now set to face multi-billion dollar fines, Capito insisted that its WRC programme won't suffer as a consequence and that it will participate in the WRC for the next four seasons as per its original plans.

"The Volkswagen WRC team could not have been more successful, winning three back-to-back World Championships," Capito said as the team gets ready for Rally France this weekend.

"We have a green light for the project up to and including 2019 and are working hard to ensure we remain as successful as possible on the sporting front," he added.

The Volkswagen team and Sebastien Ogier clinched their third successive WRC title in Rally Australia, with three rounds remaining in the 2015 season.
