Makinen continues to lead the Swedish Rally winning 5 of the day's 6 stages. There are only 4 drivers who are really on the pace - Makinen, Sainz, Radstom & Auriol. These drivers have been swapping stage times all day and are simply driving at a level above all the rest who are several minutes behind. Todays's stages also included the rally's longest stage, SS12, Jutbo 47,65km. Only major problem incurred has been some gravel in the stage - drivers tend to slow down on the gravel to save the studs in the tyres. Makinen, Sainz and Auriol are all running the same type of Michelins.

Sainz: "Although we have had no real problems today, it is disappointing to have lost this time to Tommi and for sure it will be a tough job to catch him,"

The Subarus are also still having difficulties with tyres. They are using the new range of Pirellis whereas Mitsubishi, Toyota and Ford are on Michelins. Burns: "This morning we are using the Pirelli tyres that we used in Sweden last year. They didn't work. I am driving as fast as I can, sometimes a bit faster." Co-driver commented: "I do not know where we could have gone any faster in SS 10." Thiry also added gearbox problems to his day and he was penalised 50 seconds after a gearbox change.

A bad day for the McRaes with both Colin and Alister out. Colin retired on SS9, the first stage of the day, with engine failure. "We were about 7km into the stage when the engine began to lose water. We continued for a short while and had just decided to pull over to have a look under the bonnet when the engine suddenly lost all compression and stopped. Obviously it's disappointing but the car felt really good throughout the rally. I probably didn't make the most of it yesterday, but we're all learning all the time and I'm really pleased with its performance." Alister also retired with engine failure in his Hyundai on SS12.

Seat: Rovanpera lies in 18th position with an overall time of 2:51:53.3 (he lost 9 minutes yesterday with fuel pressure problems)
