Red Bull Skoda intensively prepares for the WRC tasks ahead in Austria

Three days of gravel testing with the Fabia WRC gave both the drivers and the team important new insight

As was announced earlier, the Red Bull Skoda team used the short period of time between the two WRC events in Germany and Cyprus to prepare very intensively for the next WRC events, which will be run on gravel.

Two different stretches of gravel road, six and eight kilometres in length respectively, were used during the three days of testing in Austria, and an overall distance of more than 200 kilometres was completed.

Team boss Raimund Baumschlager, who also joined Finland's Harri Rovanpera and Red Bull youngster Andreas Aigner as a test driver, about the extensive programme: "Even though the weather conditions were less than perfect, we were able to complete a development programme similar to the one just prior to the successful tarmac event in Germany. Since our last gravel rally in Greece three months ago dates back a while, we spent a lot of time working on the setup, testing new shock absorber settings and several differentials, both in the front and the rear of the car. Additionally, we adjusted the driveability of the engine to gravel and also used a modified steering rack."

Harri Rovanpera, who had paused last time out in Germany and who will return to action in Cyprus at the end of September, referred to an important test: "The team has worked hard over the summer. The engine mapping has improved substantially compared to my last rally in Greece. The direction the team has taken with its test programme is a very positive one, we're on the right track for our next events."

Andreas Aigner summed up his test results this way: "Each and every kilometre was very productive and informative for me. The changing weather didn't make our job to try different settings and setups any easier, but together with the team, I've been able to discover many interesting aspects. Most important of all, we tested the much improved driveability of the engine, which helps a lot when driving on gravel."
