Skoda Motorsport World Rally Team driver Jan Kopecký ended the second leg of Rallye Deutschland in 11th place. However Armin Schwarz retired from eighth place in service after todays second stage.

Jan began steadily today on some of the events most demanding stages but by the afternoon was closing in on his rivals with times just outside the top 10 before setting ninth fastest time on the days penultimate stage. This brought him to within 10 seconds of tenth place and with every chance of moving further up the order on tomorrows final leg.

Armin spun off near the end of the Panzerplatte stage, damaging the clutch and pushing the cooling fan into the radiator. By the time he reached service the engine was too badly damaged for him to continue.

The Skoda Motorsport World Rally Team was paid a visit today by Colin McRae and Nicky Grist who will drive the Fabia WRC 05 at next months Rally GB. The Scot met team management and his engineers before signing autographs for the fans who had gathered to wish him well for his WRC return.

Tomorrows final leg features six stages in the Saarland region and after 90.08kms the event concludes with a second run over the superspecial at St Wendel where international rock star Joe Cocker will entertain fans at the after-rally party. The rally finish is at Bostalsee at 1403 before the cars are taken in convoy to the podium ceremony in Trier.

Quotes:

Jan Kopecký: "The Baumholder stages are very difficult and everyone has had problems getting the suspension right to cope with the high-speed roads and the really vicious dips where the car bottoms out. We had one small scare on SS9 when we had a severe vibration from the mousse in one of our tyres but since then everything has been fine and Im happy with the result so far."

Armin Schwarz: "This wasnt how my home rally was supposed to end for me. Im so disappointed."

Martin Muehlmeier (Head of Skoda Motorsport): Jan has driven extremely sensibly and I hope that he can finish this rally with the result he deserves. I am disappointed for Armin as this was not the result any of us had expected from his performance so far on this rally.
