The second leg of the rally of Great Britain started this morning with the 55 km stage "Resolfen 1" (SS8). "A challenging stage" explained Thomas Rådström's co-driver Denis Giraudet, "where fast and slow sections alternate, and where it's crucial to be confident." As far as Sébastien was concerned, he noted "constant grip changes".
"I slowed down because I noticed a burning smell," explained the young French driver, returning to Felindre service after the stage. "But in fact it was coming from Armin Schwarz's car. I also had a problem with the dash board display and I think I didn't drive very well. In spite of this impression, the gap we had with the leader was about the same as yesterday. I believe this stage was very difficult for all competitors."
And that was even more the case for Thomas Rådström and Denis Giraudet who were forced to retire 13 km from the finish with an engine problem.
On today's "menu" were two traditional stages - "Crychan" and "Halfway" - each to be run twice each. The latter took place in a British Army training camp. Young Sébastien set the second fastest time in the first pass through, and sustained his performance with a third fastest time on the second run. "I love Halfway" said the Citroën driver, smiling. "I've driven it the past two years. The track is flat, no ruts and furthermore the work on the rear damper set-up was bearing its fruits. I also think I'm becoming more and more confident inspite of the tricky aspect of this rally. Now my wish is to succeed in the second run of Resolfen tomorrow morning."
"Last night I said we were hard working students", reminded Guy Fréquelin. "I am happy to see that we are improving quickly. When the terrain is smooth, we are in the leading group. We will continue to work in the rough parts, confident we will get better results in these conditions."
