The two Xsaras of Sébastien Loeb - Daniel Elena and Thomas Rådström - Denis Giraudet experienced the first leg of Rally GB without major problems and returned to Cardiff tonight respectively in 9th and 18th position.

Weather conditions were totally different from yesterday for this first leg which took place under clear blue sky. The sun was however not strong enough to dry up the Welsh forest tracks. Competitors experienced typical British road conditions. "Brechfa" and "Trawscoed" stages loop to be runned twice, offered a very thin layer of mud on top of a very hard surface, where several drivers made mistakes.

In the first loop, Sébastien could not avoid a spin (SS2), which cost him around twenty seconds. He then decided to calm down in SS3. After the cancellation of SS4 due to the pressure of spectators, Sébastien adopted a higher pace in SS5 but faced an even more slippery terrain.

Thomas Rådström concentrated on improving his car's behaviour which he found understeering a bit too much for his taste. The front anti-roll bar was changed but without totally solving his concern. "This morning, I did not have a good feeling with the car. The different changes are going in the right direction, and we will continue to work at it."

Compared to the morning stages, "Rheola" -SS6- offered a softer ground, and finding his car easier to handle, Thomas concluded the day with an optimistic tone whilst Sébastien secured his position in the Top Ten.

"I am pleased, said the 28 years old French driver. I completely trust the car, I have a good feeling and I can attack. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's leg to increase my pace."

"The scenario we are experiencing is quite usual, analysed Guy Fréquelin. As we did all the way through the season, we are discovering everything, pilling up data and are trying to improve. If I should give us a mark, I would say : hard-working students"

Total, Michelin, Magneti-Marelli, OZ, AIS and Citroën Financement are Citroën's partners in the World Rally Championship.
