Sunday 5 September 2004 - For Team Spirit, Commitment and Inspiration, Inmarsat was delighted to award the Inmarsat Star of the Rally to Rally Japan. The excellent facilities made available to the teams, TV crews, sponsors and fans were greatly appreciated by all.

The event seemed to have been a great success with the local community as the whole province embraced the rally with flags, posters and big smiles extended to all.

No stone was left unturned where even every hotel had a representative who attended and English school so they could speak with the many guests visiting the rally from abroad. The whole event from the Starting Ceremony to the Service Park, Stage Facilities and Closing Ceremony were designed for maximum impact and certainly delivered.

Nicky Grist, former co-driver and head of the judging panel said: "Staging a round of the World Rally Championship in Japan was always going to have its challenges, but the organisation has been second-to-none. Coming to Japan has been a real adventure for all of us as we did not know what to expect with the culture and language differences, but everyone here has extended a very warm welcome to us and we look forward to coming back next year to build on this success."

Mr Kenichiro Nakajima, the president of the organising committee, received the award on behalf of Rally Japan and said: "We are so pleased to welcome the World Rally Championship to Japan. We have built a very committed team dedicated to delivering the best event of the year. This award shows we have gone a long way to achieving that."
