The STI rally team, together with the staff from Yajima Industries group (motorsport division known as SYMS Japan, which stands for Subaru Yajima Motor Sports), had an encouraging and successful debut for the 2008-specification Group N Subaru Impreza STI, which made its first appearance as a course car on the World Championship's Rally Japan.

Although this was the first public outing for the car, over a complex rally route that consisted of more than 350 stage kilometres, the new Impreza ran with no problems at all throughout the three days.

Despite conditions that took in fog, rain, mud and soft roads, the STI-run Impreza, driven by a local Japanese driver, exhibited perfect reliability and an encouraging pace.

The new hatchback Group N Impreza competition kit is available from SYMS immediately, in time for the start of the 2008 season. SYMS is part of the Japan-based Yajima Industries Group, although the SYMS Europe rally team is based near Antwerp in Belgium. The Yajima Group has produced metal parts for Subaru and other manufacturers since 1951, and is now a well-respected partner of Fuji Heavy industries - including Subaru and its performance division STI.

Motor sport has been not just a business, but a passion for Yajima Industries since the company was created more than 50 years ago. The founder of SYMS was a former driver, who passed onto his sons all his experience and enthusiasm, which are still a hallmark of the company now.

Yajima industries main headquarters is in Ota, Japan, next to the Subaru factory and it features a state of the art facility dedicated to chassis preparation. SYMS Europe runs rally cars out of its base near Antwerp in Belgium.
