Horsey really for tarmac debut
Young Kenyan rally driver Peter Horsey is looking forward to the unique challenge that he is faced with ahead of this weekends WRC Rally Deutschland, his first ever tarmac rally, and one of the most challenging events in the World Rally Championship.
Horsey, the 2010 African Pirelli Star Driver recipient, is more used to competing on the high speed African savanna but has so far acquitted himself well in his first season at the top level of rallying and has improved his pace on every event so far. Last time out Peter and co-driver Calvin Cooledge scored PWRC points on their debut in Finland. However WRC Rally Deutschland will be the first time that Peter has competed on a full tarmac rally and is acutely aware that seeing the finish is the most important objective this weekend.
I've competed on tarmac stages in Kenya before, but there the tar roads are broken up by potholes and we were running on gravel tyres. This weekend will be completely different as the car will run on tarmac tyres and will have the proper suspension and brakes. I'm really looking forward to it and my aim is to avoid super rally and gain as much experience as possible.
WRC Rally Deutschland is the fourth round of Peter's Pirelli Star Drive Schedule and takes place from 20 to 22 August. This, the first of two all tarmac rallies of Peter's season, is based in Trier, Germany, and sees the crews tackle over 350 kilometres of special stages around the region.
