Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson climb back up to second position on day one.
Day one of Rally Sardinia opened with a fastest stage time for Petter and Chris but they were to lose forty seconds on SS2 with a Turbo boost pipe problem that dropped them down to eighth position overall. Back up to speed on the next stage, they set exactly the same fastest time as Citroën’s Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier. The morning ended with the team up to sixth position overall after coming in second to Loeb on SS4, ahead of Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen.
A solid consistent performance through all four of the afternoon’s stages, including second fastest on the last two, allowed Petter and Chris to push their way back up the leader board to finish the day in second position behind overall leader Sebastien Loeb and in front of Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Ogier.
- I’m happy with my position right now, says Petter Solberg. - I lost almost 40 seconds on the loose turbo pipe this morning, so second now is good enough. I want to win this event, and will continue to push more tomorrow. Despite the problem we had on the second stage, it has been quite fun today. The car works well.
