M-SPORT TO SUPPORT FIA WRC ACADEMY FROM POLAND
Cumbrian based M-Sport, the team behind the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) intends to prepare, supply and maintain the Ford Fiesta R2 cars which will be used by all competitors in the FIA WRC Academy Cup from a location in Krakow, Poland from the beginning of 2011.
M-Sport will run up to 24 Ford Fiesta R2 cars in the newly created WRC Academy from their base in Poland. The WRC Academy is a brand new feeder series to the WRC run in partnership by motorsport's governing body, the FIA, and WRC promoter North One Sport. Built on the foundation of the successful FIA Junior World Rally Championship (J-WRC), the WRC Academy will provide an unrivalled opportunity for young drivers to develop their careers on six European rounds of the 2011 World Rally Championship in a cost-effective way.
As Krakow is centrally located within Europe and has a dynamically growing transport infrastructure, the new base will allow M-Sport to communicate more easily with their partners in Europe.
The new M-Sport branch in Poland will be co-ordinated by Maciej Woda, an M-Sport employee of six years who is starting now on the recruitment process.
M-Sport Managing Director, Malcolm Wilson OBE said:
"This is a very exciting project. The location of Krakow at the heart of Europe is ideal to enable M-Sport to develop our business both with our existing partners and in order to create further strategic growth. The WRC Academy is exactly the right programme to be able to leverage the benefit of a central European location and with the team there headed by Maciej Woda, we are looking forward to the challenges ahead."
