Malcolm Wilson was pleased to add a new FIA World Rally Championship team to its family. The second tier to the Ford main team has supported and brought along new drivers under their main M-Sport group. In addition, they have supported and aided other smaller teams.
Today, the M-Sport Managing Director, Wilson, announced that FERM Power Tools World Rally Team is the newest member: "It is a real pleasure to welcome FERM Power Tools World Rally Team into the M-Sport family and the WRC for 2011."
Dennis Kuipers has been named by FERM Power Tools as their team driver, the rally driver follows in the footsteps of his father Rene Kuipers, who has ran rally events and has been a competitor in the Dakar cross-country endurance event.
The younger Dutch racer made his debut rally debut in his homeland in 2007 and in 2008, he made his WRC debut in Rallye Deutschland, finishing 18th in a Ford Focus RS WRC. He returned to the primary international rally series twice in 2009 but it was this past year that Kuipers made his mark.
Driving for the Stobart Ford WRC team, he scored his first points in the Super 2000 Ford Fiesta at Rally Turkey last year. Kuipers was the first driver from the Netherlands to score WRC points.
"I'm very happy to join the FERM Power Tools World Rally Team for 2011," said Kuipers. "2010 was a very educational year and we had some good results with the Ford Fiesta S2000. I feel that the experience we gained with the Fiesta S2000 was excellent preparation for driving the new Ford Fiesta RS WRC. I'm really looking forward to next year."
Kuipers will, of course, race a new Ford Fiesta RS WRC, but at this time his navigator has not been named by FERM Power Tools, global producer of electronic equipment and tools, and the team will in the near future register with the FIA as an official team in the WRC to compete in the Manufacturers' Championship
"Dennis produced a series of consistently strong results in the Ford Fiesta S2000 in 2010 and showed considerable progression throughout the year. Dennis was a joy to work with last year and I look forward to working with him and the new team for what promises to be a successful season," added Wilson.
