Donegal's Shaun Gallagher is leading the "Rookie" class in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship in Portugal this weekend after the event's second leg, and is sitting in eighth overall place.

If he can maintain or improve on that position on the final leg of the event on Sunday, it will allow him to add to his Driver's Championship points standing.

Gallagher said: "I think we made good tyre choices this morning and that helped us move up the ranking today, so we want to hold a steady pace together and keep that points finish in sight."

Gallagher is currently the leading Citroen driver in the FIA Junior class. Competitors will undertake four more gravel stages tomorrow before finishing the event with a Super Special Stage at Algarve Stadium.
