Conrad takes podium on tough tarmac test

22 year old Conrad Rautenbach, the newly crowned African Rally Champion, topped the times en route to a fantastic third in the Junior Rally Championship on last weekends OMV ADAC Rally Deutschland.

Conrad, co-driven by David Senior in the PH Sport run Citroen C2 S1600, ran strongly throughout the weekend. A cautious start to Friday's stages saw the young Zimbabwean drop some time, but once he had adjusted the setup Conrad began to push, ending the opening leg in third position.

Day 2 began with Conrad chasing hard to make up time and top 3 times all morning showed he wasn't hanging around, despite minor brake issues. Panzerplatte, the scene of his big crash 3 years ago, saw Conrad go second quickest to JRC rally leader Prokop. The pair were separated by a mere 7 seconds over the 30 kilometre stage! On their second run through this famous test Conrad improved his time by an incredible 15 seconds!

Sunday saw Conrad consolidate his position with some flying times, going fastest on 3 of the days 5 stages as he ensured that the final podium position remained well and truly in his hands.

"I'm really pleased with my performance this weekend. We had a good test before the rally and it certainly helped. I don't think of tarmac as being my best surface so to set the times I did is very pleasing!"

Conrad will now conduct a tyre test ahead of his next outing, the Ulster Rally in Ireland when he rejoins the British Rally Championship for round 4.
