Leg 1: Citroen Juniors get to grips with the snow...

At the end of the first day of the ina ugural Rally Norway, both Citroën C2 Junior Experience competitors have come home in points-scoring positions.

Only two Citroëns were entered for the opening round of the Junior World Rally Championship: the C2 Super 1600 of Aaron Burkart/Timo Gottschalk and the C2- R2 of Shaun Gallagher/Clive Jenkins.

Burkart ends the day in fourth place, just 21 seconds off a podium position, while Gallagher is in an encouraging eighth.

Neither driver has a lot of experience on this very specialized surface, but each crew learned a lot from today's challenging conditions and they are both confident of improving their places over the two days of the rally that remain.

Aaron Burkart (Citroën C2 Super 1600)

"I started the rally with the firm aim of keeping out of the snowbanks...and I nearly succeeded! Everything was going very well up until SS6, where there was a fast right-hand corner about halfway through the stage. I think we were a little too fast, as we slid wide and then dropped into a snowy ditch. Some spectators had to help us get out, and then we had to stop on the stage again in order to clear snow out of the radiators. Apart from that, it was a very positive day and we had no other problems. We are well-placed now, and I am determined not to throw away the opportunity to score some good points. But I really regret that incident: we would have been a lot closer to the lead if it had not happened... "

Shaun Gallagher (Citroën C2-R2)

"This was all a very new experience for me: both of the World Rally Championship and of driving on snow. Most of all my goal is to finish, so I'm delighted that we still have an intact car at the end of day one and to be in the points is an extra bonus. The car has felt really good all day. I want to come away from Norway with some useful experience for the future... "
