Colin McRae signed a one-year contract with Citroën World Rally team for the year 2003. The deal came one day after Ford announced that they would release the Scot at the end of the 2002 season.

At the Paris Auto Show Thursday, Septemember 26: "With 25 victories in WRC, as well as a World Rally Champion title," said Guy Fréquelin, Citroën team boss. "Colin will bring to the Citroën team his valued experience in the field of rallying."

McRae met with Citroën boss Guy Fréquelin on Wednesday. "The priority is to be with a team and car that can win the championship," McRae said after his Wednesday meeting with Frequelin on Wednesday prior to this morning's signing.

Ford released an official statement on Wednesday releasing McRae, the 1995 World Rally champion, from his contract with the Ford Rallye Sport team.

It had been reported that McRae was seeking an one-year salary close to £5 million. Ford had earlier stated that they could not afford huge driver salaries and wants to push more funds into technical development.
