Junior WRC - One more win for C2 and Sordo
With a strong lead before the start of the final leg, Daniel Sordo and Marc Marti fantastically preserved their advantage today to obtain in Jyväskylä their second success of the season in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship.
The Spanish crew, who already won in Sardinia, now lie in second position in the Championship, four points behind the leader who has competed on one more rally (Mexico).
Carlos Sainz' protégé was extremely happy at the finish : "Winning here for my first participation was a dream. And it came true. It's just great. Fantastic. We haven't made any mistakes, the Kronos racing team has done a perfect job and we had no problem at all with our C2. I don't know what more to say. I'm looking forward to the Deutschland rally. I drove there once and I really like this event..." explained Dani.
The performance of the young Spaniard is simply exceptional considering his experience on gravel sums up, before his wins in Sardinia and Portugal in S1600 in 2005, in a participation in a gravel rally last year (80 kilometres of stages).
Dani's team-mate in the Kronos Racing team, Kris Meeke, scored two valuable points after he could restart this morning. These two points are just sufficient to attenuate the driver's disappointment who was leading before he went off the road on stage 11. "I made a mistake. I'm angry with myself and I'm also very disappointed for the team who has worked hard to give us a winning car. I will have to push in the next events but without making mistakes. With our car I'm convinced it's possible and I remain quite confident."
"It's always very satisfying to see that what we have done in testing is working in real racing conditions, explained Alexis Avril the technical manager of the C2 programme. Our tests before the Tampere rally and our participation in the event were extremely profitable. Our car was reliable and Dani and Marc have done a very professional job here. We are now preparing the Rally Deutschland for the comeback of C2 on tarmac. It's motivating."
The Customer Programme Manager was also very pleased with this victory :"After C2 Super 1600 has won on the rough terrain of Sardinia, it wins again on the fast roads of the 'Finnish Grand Prix'. I think we can say that our car is now fully competitive. This will allow us to offer a C2 S1600 gravel kit in 2006 to our customers. We hope we will be able to do the same with the tarmac version after the next rounds of the Championship."
