Dani Oliveira endured several problems in Rally Argentina's second day
The Brazilian driver struggled to finish Day 2 on board his Ford Fiesta RS WRC but had to abandon in the last-but-one stage.
BWRT pair Daniel Oliveira and Carlos Magalhaes had to drop out from Rally Argentina's second Day after struggling to the end to complete another long day of action of this "endurance" fifth round of the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship.
The Brazilian driver reported different problems in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC serviced by Stohl Racing but it was the driveshaft which finally took him out in the penultimate stage. There were only six kilometres of the Super Special remaining but he wasn't able to make his way back to the Service Park after completing SS12.
"Definitely this wasn't our best day. We had different problems and c ouldn't improve in the standings" said Oliveira.
Morning's issues. Oliveira started the day in high spirits after showing great improvements through Friday's stages and was determined to build up his pace on the Calamuchita Valley roads. He was the 14th fastest time on SS7 and there was a great expectation for the next one; however, at the kilometre 8 on SS8 he started to have a problem with the power steering which considerably delayed him.
Afternoon's issues. The Stohl Racing team repaired the damages in the car and Oliveira could speed up his Ford Fiesta WRC again. He was 12th and 13th fastest on SS10 and SS11 but endured another mechanical issue in the Intiyaco-Golpe de Agua stage once again. A part of the suspension was broken and that affected the driveshaft, so the engine started losing oil. Daniel completed the section but the car stopped immediately after he crossed the stop sign.
"It was a shame we had to abandon today. I knew this stages well and I wanted to use that to my advantage. The team is now working to repair all the damages on the car so as to re-join the rally under Rally 2 system tomorrow" concluded Oliveira.
The Stohl Racing team will evaluate all the damages in the car to considerate the possibility to re-join under Rally 2 system tomorrow.
A classic end. The last day of competition will take place in the lunar landscape of the Traslasierra Valley, with two passes over classic stages like Mina Clavero-Giulio Cesare (17,41km) and El Condor-Copina (16,32km), to be shortened for the second run so as to use the last kilometres for the Power Stage (4,14km). However, drivers will start the day with a massive 65,74-kilometre test across Sierras Grandes hills from Matadero to Ambul which is the biggest and longest challenge they will have to face this year.
