Didier Auriol and Denis Giraudet re-sign with Toyota Castrol Team Didier Auriol The Toyota Castrol Team is pleased to announce that 1994 World Rally Champion Didier Auriol and co-driver Denis Giraudet have reached agreement to remain with the team for the 1999 and 2000 FIA World Rally Championships. They will once again partner double World Champions Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya in a pair of Toyota Corolla WRCs prepared by Toyota Team Europe in Köln, Germany. Maintaining the continuity, title sponsor Castrol and associate sponsor MoviStar will also continue their partnerships for the future. "I'm delighted that we have been able to re-sign Didier and Denis for the next two seasons. They have played a major part in the successful development of the Corolla WRC, helping us into the lead of both the Drivers' and Manufacturers' championships in the World Championship. Didier's recent performances for the team have been outstanding, and that made him an obvious target for other manufacturers. I'm glad he chose Toyota and together, Carlos and Didier give us the strongest possible line-up in the World Rally Championship," said Ove Andersson, President of Toyota Motorsport. Denis Giraudet With a current total of 18 World Rally Championship event wins to his name, as well as the 1994 championship crown, 40-year old Auriol is one of the sport's most experienced stars. Apart from a short interlude in 1996, he has driven solely for Toyota since 1993. Amongst his records is a total of six wins in the Tour de Corse, the Rally of France. "I'm very pleased that it is possible to continue with Toyota. It is well known that there were some other teams who were interested in me, but I have a good feeling with Toyota and Castrol. I have been here a long time, more than with any other team - so it is good to stay. Right now my aim is on this year, because there are still three events to run, and we want to win the World Championship for the whole Toyota Castrol Team," said the Millau resident. Auriol's team-mates Sainz and Moya are already contracted until the end of 2000. The Auriol/Sainz partnership includes 40 WRC event wins, and three World Championship titles, to the current date.
