WORLD OF OUTLAWS SCHEDULES RETURN TO KOKOMO
KOKOMO, IN (January 6) - The World of Outlaws is planning to return to Kokomo Speedway in 1995, series President Ted Johnson announced Friday.
The World of Outlaws raced at the semi-banked, 1/4-mile oval 15 times between 1978 and 1993. The facility, now under new management, is scheduled to host a $34,485 "greatest show on dirt" event on June 14th.
Stevie Smith, the new driver of the #71M Ecowater Maxim, won the last two World of Outlaws "A" Features run at Kokomo. The track's most recent World of Outlaws main event featured six lead changes in 40 laps. Danny Lasoski, the "A" Feature winner at Kokomo on July 17, 1991, led the first lap from the pole. Andy Hillenburg and Smith exchanged the lead four times before Stevie executed the winning pass with 1 3/4 laps remaining.
The 13.787-second lap Dave Blaney recorded on June 16, 1993, is Kokomo's one-lap record.
Steve Kinser, who left "the greatest show on dirt" for NASCAR's Winston Cup series, won six of Kokomo's first 10 World of Outlaws events.
Joe Gaerte, 1989 series champion Bobby Davis, Jr., Jac Haudenschild and Sammy Swindell have also won World of Outlaws "A" Features at Kokomo Speedway.
