Tatnell Defends Aussie Title, Returns for Tulare

TULARE, CA (February 19) -- World of Outlaws drivers beware! Brooke Tatnell is brimming with confidence after claiming his third straight Australian Sprintcar Championship, and he's ready to drive Woodward Racing's #2 Volcano Joe's Coffee Schnee to the front in this weekend's double-feature event at Thunderbowl Raceway.

Tatnell's victory in Sunday's 50-lap feature race at Latrobe Speedway in Latrobe, Tasmania, not only clinched the Australian Sprintcar Championship; it gave him the right to retain the coveted #A1 on his sprint car in Australia.

The San Souci, New South Wales, native drove "The Black Deuce" into the top 11 in all three features during the World of Outlaws' season opener -- the 36th Annual DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Mopar Speedshop -- at Volusia Speedway Park. Woodward Racing ranks eighth in the World of Outlaws point standings entering the Friday-Saturday event at Tulare's high-banked, 1/3-mile oval.

Tatnell is only 12 points behind Terry McCarl, who passed Daryn Pittman during the final lap to win a World of Outlaws "A" Feature at Thunderbowl Raceway on October 30, 2004. Tatnell, who finished 13th in Tulare 2½ years ago, trails current World of Outlaws point standings leader and defending series champion Donny Schatz by 50 points.

Tatnell finished 26th in the October 15, 2005, event at Thunderbowl Raceway. Kevin Swindell set qualifying standard with a 12.740-second lap and his father -- Sammy Swindell -- led all 35 laps to win the "A" Feature.
