Cordova, Tennesse's Sammy Swindell avenged the World of Outlaws poor showing against the Pennsylvania Posse the previous night by winning the 30 lap $12,000-to-win finale at Williams Grove Speedway Saturday night. Swindell, who started outside Thursday night winner Lance Dewease on the front row, inherited the lead when race-long leader Dewease spun in the first and second turns of the 11th lap. Swindell then held off current point leader Steve Kinser in the final laps while racing through lapped traffic to pick up his seventh A-Feature win of the year. "I didn't really see what happened to Lance (Dewease) there, but I think something must have broken, because he's too good a driver to just spin by himself," a happy Swindell said in victory lane. "I don't know if I would have had anything for him or not, we were pretty close there at the beginning." "I knew I was slowing up a little there at the end, especially when I got into lapped traffic," Swindell added. "The car was good enough to win, but that's about it. I know there were some other guys faster there at the end. When the track gets slick, it's hard to make up your momentum." Dewease blasted into the lead at the drop of the green and was starting to run away from Swindell when he suddenly spun entering the first turn, collecting the lapped car of Todd Shaffer in the process. Dewease brought out the only other caution as well on the 18th lap when he brought his sprinter to a stop on the backstretch with driveline problems. Kinser, who started 11th, made a bid low in the third and fourth turns on the final two laps but fell short in the end. "I never saw him (Steve Kinser) there at the end, but I was pretty close to the wall and trying not to make any mistakes," Swindell said. "I didn't know anything but running the top, but fortunately I didn't have to change my line in traffic." "We tried a new engine Thursday night, something a little different, and it didn't really do what we wanted it to do, so we put this one back in and went with something we know tonight." Swindell took the checkered .56 seconds ahead of Kinser for his 15th career Williams Grove win, and his 25th top-five finish and 32nd top-10 finish this season with the World of Outlaws. Finishing behind Swindell and Kinser came Greg Hodnett, the top Pennsylvania Posse finisher Donnie Kreitz Jr., and Jac Haudenschild. Mark Kinser, the defending series champion, was forced to take a provisional starting spot and wound up 20th at the finish, losing further ground to Swindell in the race to chase Steve Kinser for the WoO title. The result means that Kinser holds a 177-point lead heading into the Historical Big One at Eldora Speedway next weekend. The $100,000-to-win event serves as a tune-up for the 40th Amoco Knoxville Nationals at the Marion County Fairgrounds Aug. 9-12.
