Jason Meyers Wins at Ocean Speedway

Jason Meyers won his second consecutive race in his home state of California on Friday night, as he held off fellow Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver Shane Stewart at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, California.

Meyers began the night by turning the second fastest lap in time trials of the 29 cars that were on hand, and he followed that up with a win in the second heat race to earn a spot in the dash, which he also won. In the A-Feature, he started on the pole and led all 30 laps aboard the GLR Investments KPC.

The native of Clovis, California, who is currently second in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings, endured a couple of cautions and also a red flag for a fuel stop. He used strong restarts each time to maintain his lead over Stewart and third-place finisher Tim Kaeding. It was his first win at Ocean Speedway and the 11th victory of his career with the Golden State Challenge Series.

Meyers has now won four A-Feature events this season, including two with the World of Outlaws. In 10 starts in 2008, including two in Australia, he has finished eighth or better in each one, with seven Top-Five performances.

Stewart, the 2005 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, won the third heat race on Friday night and was second in the dash. He challenged Meyers a couple of times in traffic in the Roth Motorsports JEI, in his first career start at the track. For the native of Bixby, Oklahoma, it was his third Top-10 finish in his last four starts.
