Donny Schatz Bolsters World of Outlaws Sprint Series Title Hopes After Rolling Wheels Victory

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series is in the midst of an incredible string of events, with Wednesday night's Commonwealth Clash at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., serving as the third night of action in a row, with Thursday night's return to Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, completing a four-night run through three states. By the time the Mean 15 drivers have a chance to catch their collective breath following Sunday night's event at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, they will have completed nine events in 11 nights in four different states.

Through it all, Donny Schatz has been able to hold onto his lead atop the championship standings while the positions behind him seem to shuffle with every race. Thanks in part to his victory on Tuesday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., and consistency throughout the East Coast swing, Schatz has a 138-point lead over Daryn Pittman.

Terry McCarl is in a unique position, too. McCarl, who had surgery last week on his broken left leg, receives 50 driver points per event while he is out of action, according to World of Outlaws rules. However, using a combination of Tim Shaffer and Dean Jacobs in events since his leg was injured May 20 at Sharon Speedway, McCarl's Big Game Treestands Eagle remains second in owner points.

The current World of Outlaws road trip begins to shift back toward the Midwest after the Commonwealth Clash on Wednesday night at Lernerville. Thursday the Mean 15 drivers invade Wayne County Speedway in Orrivlle, Ohio, before events on Saturday at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and Sunday at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track grab the spotlight. The series then rolls down the highway on June 9-10 to Eagle Raceway near Lincoln, Neb., June 14 to The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, Wis., June 16-17 to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, S.D., and June 23-24 to historic Knoxville Raceway near Des Moines, Iowa.
