Swindell Continues Recovery After Crash

CORDOVA, TN (July 27) -- Three-time Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion Sammy Swindell underwent surgery Thursday to repair the broken bones in his hands suffered in a crash with a push truck.

An orthopedic hand specialist discovered a knuckle was pushed behind a bone in his right hand. The doctor inserted three screws into Swindell's right hand and two pins under the little finger on his left hand and put both hands in casts.

The doctor will remove the casts and put splints on both of Swindell's hands Monday. While he wants to return to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series in his #1 CHANNELLOCK Stealth as soon as possible, when Swindell races again depends on how much his hands have healed when the casts are removed.

Swindell collided with a push truck in turn one following his second qualifying lap Tuesday during the 10th Annual Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway. He suffered broken bones in both hands, a cracked kneecap and contusions to his head and groin area.
