Concord, NC-- January 4, 2009--It was a busy weekend for World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers as a number of competitors were in action in Australia, along with a pair who finished up their off-season tour in New Zealand, as they continue to gear up for the 38th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals to open the World of Outlaws season February 6-8 at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida.
50,000 Reasons to Smile: Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, won the $50,000 Scott Darley Memorial at Parramatta City Raceway in thrilling fashion over Donny Schatz on Saturday night. The race came down to the last two laps, with Schatz taking the lead and then Kinser retaking it off turn three as the pair headed for the white flag. It was Kinser's second win of the off-season at the track and the ninth of his career at Parramatta. It was the first time he has won the $50,000 event. Schatz, the three-time defending World of Outlaws champion finished second, with Kerry Madsen fourth and Daryn Pittman sixth. Also in action was Danny Lasoski, Jason Meyers, Kraig Kinser and Jason Sides, who was running in the Top-Three before getting taken out by a lapped car.
Another Win: Schatz won on Friday night at Parramatta City Raceway on the first night of the two-night Scott Darley Memorial It was the second win in four starts at the track for the North Dakota native as he won for the 31st time in his career at Parramatta. Jason Sides continued his strong international season finishing second, with Jason Meyers third, Steve Kinser fourth, Kerry Madsen fifth and Kraig Kinser ninth. Also competing in the event was 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski, along with Daryn Pittman.
Fast Start to 2009: Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion, opened 2009 with a win on New Year's Day at in Australia at Parramatta City Raceway. It was his third career win at Parramatta City Raceway and he did it aboard the No. R19 for the Carnahan Motorsports team.
Kerry Madsen finished second, with Kraig Kinser in third, Donny Schatz in fourth, Jason Meyers in sixth and Steve Kinser in ninth. Jason Sides also competed in the event.
A Kiwi Title: Joey Saldana finished third at Springs Speedway in New Zealand on Sunday to wrap up the International Sprint Car championship driving for the Salter Motorsport team. Saldana's teammate Craig Dollansky finished second in the event. The pair will also be teammates this season on the World of Outlaws trail for Kasey Kahne Racing. Each driver was victorious once in their tour of New Zealand.
Staying Down Under: Donny Schatz and Daryn Pittman will remain in Australia for another week to compete in the $20,000 to win finale for the World Series Sprint Cars at Brisbane International Speedway. Schatz won the event last season, while Pittman, the only American driver to ever claim the World Series title has eight career wins at Brisbane and has never finished below sixth in his 17 career starts at the track.
