Jason Meyers Wins at Cotton Classic
After winning during the inaugural Outlaws World Finals last weekend, and a subsequent cross-county trip, Jason Meyers returned to action on Saturday night. The native of Clovis, California, who won five World of Outlaws A-Feature events this season, was victorious on Saturday night in the 360-sprint car portion of the Cotton Classic at Kings Speedway in his home state. It was his third victory in the last four events that he has competed in.
Meyers won the second heat and was fourth in the dash, which earned him the fourth starting spot in the A-Feature. He moved up to third on the opening lap, before getting around Paul McMahan on the eighth circuit to move into the runner-up spot. Meyers took the lead from the Willie Croft on the 10th lap and went on to lead the rest of the way in the 25-lap contest.
This was Meyers second win in a 360-sprint car this season, as he also won the prestigious Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, prior to winning the opening feature of the inaugural Outlaws World Finals for the World of Outlaws at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Paul McMahan returned to action in the Cotton Classic, after sustaining a hairline fracture to his right big toe last Saturday night during the finale of the Outlaws World Finals. He finished sixth in the A-Feature in the 360-sprint car A-Feature, after finishing second in the first heat race and the dash.
In time trials for the 360-sprint car event, McMahan was ninth quickest, with Meyers 10th fastest.
In the 410-sprint car portion of the event, Meyers finished fifth in the A-Feature, after turning the sixth fastest lap in time trials and finishing fourth in the third heat, while McMahan was 12th, after turning the fourth fastest lap in time trails and running fourth in the first heat.
Meyers and McMahan both are scheduled to compete in the Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California next weekend.
The 2008 World of Outlaws seasons begins on February 8 at Volusia Speedway Park with the 37th Annual Florida DIRTcar. Nationals.
