A number of Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers kicked off their 2008 season on Wednesday night by taking part in the 22nd Annual Dodge Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Taking to the track for the first of three qualifying nights, were: Joey Saldana, Danny Lasoski, Chad Kemenah, Randy Hannagan, and Shane Carson, who heads Industry Relations for the World of Outlaws.

Lasoski, Hannagan and Saldana all raced their way into the 25-lap preliminary feature, which was won by Josh Ford of California.

Chad Kemenah, the 2006 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, began the night by winning the first heat race, in his first visit to the Chili Bowl and first start in a midget in two years. He bested a field that included reigning USAC National Midget Champion Jerry Coons Jr. for the heat race win, with Carson finishing in the fifth position. The win put Kemenah in the third A-Qualifier, where he finished ninth. He would wrap-up his night in the eighth spot in the second B-Main.

Saldana, who won 13 times with the World of Outlaws in 2007, finished second in the sixth heat race on Wednesday night, to earn a spot in the third A-Qualifier, where he finished 10th. A runner-up finish in the first B-Main earned the native of Brownsburg, Indiana a starting spot in the preliminary feature.

Hannagan, who was making his third career appearance at the Chili Bowl, finished second in the fifth heat race, which put him in the third A-Qualifier, where he finished third to earn a spot in the 25-lap preliminary feature.

Lasoski, in his 17th trip to the Chili Bowl, was fourth in the 10th heat race, which put him in the fourth A-Qualifier, where he finished fourth to also earn a spot in the preliminary feature.

In the preliminary feature, Lasoski finished 14th, with Hannagan 17th and Saldana in 22nd.

Carson, who finished fourth in the first Chili Bowl in 1987, was set to line-up on the front row for the fourth Last Chance Race, when a fuel line came loose on the pace lap, drenching him with fuel and subsequently ending his night.

Also in action on Wednesday night was 2006 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion Tim McCreadie, who also won the Chili Bowl that same year. The native of Watertown, New York finished ninth in the preliminary feature, after winning the eighth heat race and finishing third in the fourth A-Qualifier.

The 22nd Annual Dodge Chili Bowl continues on Thursday night with the second of the three qualifying nights. Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers that will be in action include: Justin Henderson, Shane Stewart, and three-time series champion Sammy Swindell.
