Donny Schatz Wins $50,000 in Australia

Mother Nature tried her best to slow Donny Schatz down this weekend, by postponing the finale of the Bevelite Glass $50,000 Classic at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway one day by rain, but the two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion picked up right where he left off on Friday night, returning to Victory Lane on Sunday. It was the seventh time in his career that he has won the prestigious event.

Schatz used a dominating performance to win the 30-lap contest for the fifth consecutive season. It was his third consecutive win at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway and his fourth in five starts over the last three weeks. In the eight year history of the Bevelite Glass $50,000 Classic, he and fellow Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series star Joey Saldana are the only two drivers to taste victory.

Schatz lined up third for the 30-lap A-Feature on Sunday night and quickly took the second spot from Ian Loudoun. He then set his sights on leader Robbie Farr, and tracked him down on the 11th lap, diving low in turn one. From there, Schatz would open a very commanding lead en route to the $50,000 payday.

Steve Kinser turned in a very solid performance, charging from the 18th starting spot to finish sixth. The 20-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion ran as high as fourth during the 30-lap contest, but lost a cylinder late in the race. He won his first race of the International season on New Year's Day at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.

Kerry Madsen, the reigning World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished eighth on Sunday night.

Jonathan Allard, who won a preliminary feature with the World of Outlaws in 2007 during the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in California, finished fifth in the Bevelite Glass $50,000 Classic.

Other drivers that have won with the World of Outlaws that competed on Sunday night included multi-time Australian champion Brooke Tatnell, as well as Mark Dobmeier from North Dakota.

In preliminary action on Sunday night, Kerry Madsen finished second in the first heat, while Steve Kinser was fourth in the third heat. By virtue of his win in the preliminary feature on Friday night, Schatz did not have to take part in a heat race, earning a spot on the pole in the first dash. In that dash, he finished second, with Madsen fourth.

The next event at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway will be next Saturday night.
