WORLD OF OUTLAWS CHAMPION TO PROMOTE SEAT BELT AWARENESS
FARGO, ND (May 8) - Defending World of Outlaws (WoO) champion Donny Schatz knows the importance of safety. The Fargo, ND resident will serve as a spokesman for the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, which kicks off this month across the nation.
"This is a great program to be involved with," said Schatz, who will be in his home town of Minot, ND and current residence of Fargo promoting the campaign. "I know how important it is to buckle up every time I get into a vehicle. We hope to get that message out there not only in North Dakota, but across the country. Hopefully, through efforts of everyone involved we can save some lives."
Schatz races his No. 15 ParkerStore sponsored sprint car, a 1300-pound, 800 plus horsepower racecar, with the World of Outlaws series on dirt tracks ranging in size from a quarter-mile to a half-mile throughout the United States. He also spends four weeks a year racing sprint cars in Australia.
The 2006 WoO champion will be in Minot on Wednesday, May 9 to help begin this year's activities. The day will start with a press conference at Nodak Speedway at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by an appearance at Minot High School during the lunch hour to discuss with teens the importance of always using a seat belt. He will conclude the day by spending two hours signing pledge cards at Walmart (3900 S Broadway) from 4 - 6 p.m.
On Thursday, Schatz will be in Fargo participating in a news conference at Red River Valley Speedway that will include 150 grade school children from Westside Elementary in the audience.
"Safety is one of the most important things in our community and the state of North Dakota," said Robyn Litke, Coordinator of Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley. "It's important to make our community as safe as we can. When you can get a celebrity to be part of the solution that has a huge impact. We hope to get the message out to as many people as possible during the month of May before the heavy vacation and travel seasons begin."
Schatz will also be on location at the Fastlane Car Wash (4600 9th Ave. SW, Fargo) from 4 - 6 p.m. signing pledge cards.
The pledge cards also include a 2007 racing schedule for Schatz. The message will reach a broader audience across the country as the pledge cards will be distributed everywhere the ParkerStore Racing team competes this season. Fans can stop by the Schatz merchandise trailer at any race and ask for a pledge card.
Radio and television spots which feature Schatz and the seat belt message will air throughout the month promoting seat belt usage and the Click It or Ticket campaign.
