World of Outlaws Return to Orange County Fair Speedway

The World of Outlaws will return to Orange County Fair Speedway in New York on Wednesday, September 26 for an event that was postponed by rain earlier in the season. This will mark the 19th visit by the series to the sprawling 5/8-mile track. Nine drivers have won an A-Feature event with the series at the track dating back to 1983.Eight current World of Outlaws drivers competed at the track last season with the series.

With just 10 points paying events remaining on the 2007 calendar, the battle in the championship point standings begins to take center stage, with Donny Schatz leading Joey Saldana by 35 markers.

Schatz, the reigning World of Outlaws champion, set a new track record in time trials last season at Orange County, turning a lap of 16.895 seconds at 133.175 miles per hour, en route to finishing second in the A-Feature. He has finished second in his last two starts at the track, as he looks for his first win of the season in the state of New York. He finished third at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, another sprawling 5/8-mile track back in May. The native of Fargo, North Dakota leads the series with 16 A-Feature wins, to go along with 62 Top-10 finishes. He also leads the series in Top-Five finishes, money earned and has 10 wins in the Crane Cams Dash to earn the same number of pole positions.

Saldana finished seventh at Orange County Fair Speedway last season. The native of Brownsburg, Indiana has won 12 A-Feature events this season, including in the series most recent event at Eldora Speedway last Friday night. In one start on a 5/8-mile track this season, he was second at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Memorial Day. He has 59 Top-10 finishes on the season and is the only driver other than Schatz to have earned more than $300,000 in prize money. Saldana leads the series in laps led, with 384, as well as 11 fast time honors in time trials.

Danny Lasoski finished fifth in his last visit to Orange County in 1999, after turning the second fastest lap in time trials. The 2001 World of Outlaws champion has finished in the Top-10 in his last four starts at the track. Earlier this season, he was eighth at Rolling Wheels. He heads to New York, third in the championship standings, on the strength of five A-Feature wins, including a sweep of the Harvest Classic at Calistoga Speedway in California. He has 42 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Daryn Pittman was fourth at Orange County Fair Speedway last season. He also was fifth this season at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. He recently moved into the fourth spot in the championship standings, and is just 28 markers out of the third position. He has won five times on the season, with the most recent victory coming at Charter Raceway Park in Wisconsin on September 16.

Jason Meyers will be making his first start at Orange County Fair Speedway this week. The native of Clovis, California finished seventh earlier this season at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. He is currently fifth in championship points, just 12 markers out of the fourth spot, on the strength of four A-Feature wins. His most recent win came in the state of New York at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, has five career wins at Orange County. He won the series inaugural event at the track in 1983 and his most recent victory at the 5/8-mile came in 1993. He finished third in his last start at the track in 1999. He was victorious earlier in the season at Rolling Wheels and has nine total A-Feature wins on the season. He is sixth in points, just 30 markers out of fifth and 70 points out of the third position.

Craig Dollansky finished sixth last season at Orange County. The native of Elk River, Minnesota was fourth earlier this season at Rolling Wheels. He has three A-Feature wins on the season, at Lake Ozark Speedway in Missouri, I-96 Speedway in Michigan and at Skagit Speedway in Washington. The former World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion is currently seventh in points.

Paul McMahan will make his first start at Orange County Fair Speedway on September 26. He was ninth earlier this season at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on the sprawling 5/8-mile. He is currently eighth in points, just 52 markers out of the seventh position. He has two A-Feature wins on the season at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin and at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.

Jason Solwold also will make his first start at Orange County Fair Speedway this week. The native of Mt. Vernon, Washington was sixth at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Memorial Day. He earned his first World of Outlaws A-Feature victory at Charter Raceway Park in August. He is ninth in points, on the strength of 39 Top-10 finishes.

Tim Shaffer finished sixth in his last visit to Orange County in 1999. He has two consecutive Top-10 finishes at the historic track. The 1999 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 35 Top-10 finishes in 2007, as he continues to close in on his first win of the season.

Terry McCarl missed the event at Orange County last season, as he was recovering form a severely broken left leg. The six-time Knoxville Raceway track champion has two wins this season, including at his home track, as well as at K-C Raceway in Ohio in one of the most thrilling events of the season as he battled with reigning World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz for the victory. McCarl has 31 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Jac Haudenschild finished third last season at Orange County. He has finished second twice at the track, in 1995 and 1998, as he looks for his first win on a 5/8-mile track. He heads to the Empire State with two A-Feature wins on the season, at Red River Valley Speedway in North Dakota, as well as at Limaland Motorsports Park in Ohio in the Brad Doty Classic. He is just 13 points out of the 11th spot in the championship standings.

Kerry Madsen, the current leader in the battle for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award will make his first start at Orange County Fair Speedway this week. The native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia won earlier this season at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida on a half-mile. He has 18 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Jason Sides will also make his first start at Orange County on September 26. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year was 10th at Rolling Wheels on Memorial Day. He won earlier this season at Ohsweken Speedway in Canada, in the series first event north of the border in over 25 years. He has 21 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Randy Hannagan finished ninth in his first start at Orange County in 1995. He missed the event at Orange County last season, after returning home to California to spend time with his mother who was ill. He is currently in the midst of a streak that has seen him finish in the Top-10 in three of the last four events. He is solidly in the 15th spot in points, with 11 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Justin Henderson finished ninth last season in his first start at Orange County. The native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota currently has 12 Top-10 finishes on the season, including a career-best third-place performance at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin in July, where he led a number of laps.

Chad Kemenah, the reigning World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finished eighth last season at Orange County. The native of Findlay, Ohio has 12 Top-10 finishes this season.

Jeremy Campbell competed at the 5/8-mile for the first time in his career last season. He is solidly in the Top-20 in points this year, on the strength of eight Top-10 finishes, with three of those being in the Top-Five.

Sam Hafertepe Jr., Chad Hillier and Tony Bruce Jr., who are second, third and fourth in the rookie standings, will all make their first starts at Orange County Fair Speedway this week. They all competed on a 5/8-mile track for the first time in their careers on Memorial Day at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.

On Wednesday, September 26 at Orange County Fair Speedway, general admission tickets will be $30, while reserved tickets will be $35.
