Dollansky Roars in Rain-Delayed Nationals Opener By Richard Day KNOXVILLE, IA (August 13) - Like defending Amoco Knoxville Nationals champion Danny Lasoski, Craig Dollansky knows his way around Knoxville Raceway. The former track regular put his experience to good use Friday when he won the rain-delayed First Preliminary Feature. Dollansky, whose previous best finish in a Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature this season was a fifth-place run at West Plains Motor Speedway, won in flag-to-flag fashion to move into sixth place in the Nationals point standings. "We've been working really hard at it," Dollansky said. "This Maxim car and Kriner motor are running awesome. My crew is doing a great job, I have great sponsors and I'm just happy to be here." Dollansky qualified seventh-quick before rain hit Knoxville Raceway Wednesday. He finished second in the Second NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race Friday. Dollansky, the series' Vivarin Perseverance Award winner last year, drove his #7 Polydome Maxim around polesitter Frankie Kerr as the green flag fell. He immediately started building a comfortable advantage as First NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race winner Lance Blevins battled Kerr for second place. Dollansky was a half-straightaway ahead of Kerr when he entered lapped traffic during the sixth lap. Craig increased his advantage as he ripped through lapped traffic flawlessly. Dollansky opened a 3.9-second advantage by the midpoint of the race and continually pulled away as Blevins challenged Kerr. He took the checkered flag as Kerr raced through the third corner. "The guys who prepare the track here at Knoxville are the best in the country," Dollansky said. "A day race makes things different. They did a great job of getting a good track for us. We're looking forward to tonight." Blevins held off Vivarin Fast-Time Award winner Joey Saldana for third place. Randy Hannagan finished fifth, ahead of former Amoco Knoxville Nationals champions Sammy Swindell and Mark Kinser. Nationals rookie P.J. Chesson finished eighth, Greg Hodnett ninth and Jeff Shepard completed the top 10. Johnny Herrera's crew changed engines the #1BK Networks Eagle before and after the NAPA Auto Parts Heat Races. Herrera, the 1995 Knoxville Raceway champion, won the Fourth NAPA Auto Parts Heat Race and finished 11th in the Preliminary Feature. Saldana received his sixth Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the year for pacing the 64-car qualifying session with a 15.477-second, 116.302- m.p.h., lap around the prestigious, semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval.
