Knoxville Raceway Welcomes Back the World of Outlaws on Oct. 7

Knoxville, IA -- May 3, 2006 -- The World of Outlaws Sprint Series has sanctioned events at Knoxville Raceway every year since 1980, but for the first time since 1995 the Mean 15 drivers will compete in the fall on the historic half-mile oval after the prestigious Knoxville Nationals.

After rain forced last Saturday's event to be postponed, Knoxville and World of Outlaws officials decided to bring the series back on Oct. 7 to Knoxville, Iowa, a week after competing in the $50,000-to-win National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and also a week after Knoxville's huge Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals Finals.

"The World of Outlaws really wanted to get that race in last Saturday but it just wasn't going to happen with all the rain," said Shane Carson, DIRT MotorSports VP Race Operations. "Fortunately for the fans, teams and everybody else involved, Knoxville was able to reschedule for the first Saturday in October. We raced there in the fall several times through the years and it always was a neat deal. It'll be a great to have the World of Outlaws wrap up Knoxville's 2006 season."

The Mean 15 racers return to Knoxville on June 23-24 for the Mediacom World of Outlaws Shoot-Out and also will compete Aug. 9-12 in the Knoxville Nationals.

Reserved and general admission tickets for the April 29 date can be exchanged at the track for either of the June dates (Friday, June 23, or Saturday, June 24) or the Oct. 7 event. For more information contact the track at 641-842-5431.

Beginning on Friday, the World of Outlaws schedule picks up with the highly anticipated Missouri High-Banked Nationals presented by Weld Wheels at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., followed May 6 by the Third Annual Wichita Twister Showdown at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., and the season-opener on May 7 at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D. The Mean 15 drivers then head toward their first East Coast Swing with events May 12 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio; the Ohio Challenge II on May 13 at K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio; Thunder on the Hill on May 16 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.; and the Commonwealth Clash on May 19 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., that sets the stage for the $50,000 Challenge on May 20 at Sharon Speedway.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series is brought to the fans across the country by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Hoosier Racing Tire and The Outdoor Channel. Promotional Partners include AMB i.t. and The University of Northwestern Ohio. Associate sponsors are ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, Maxim Racing, RacinSoles and Snap-on. Contingency sponsors include DART Machinery, MSD Ignitions and Wrisco Industries.
