Martin has a bumpy night at Sharon Speedway!
(5/20/2006 Hartford, OH) After quite a bit of time off with rain canceling the last 3 World of Outlaw races, the Hitman Jason Martin was chomping at the bit to climb back aboard the NOS Energy Drink/Mafia Motorsports #36 Maxim. After a decent qualifying effort of 11th, Martin would start 3rd in the 5th heat. Martin would get a good start and stay 3rd but a few bobbles on a very rough track found the youngster 5th and he would hold off a hard charging Craig Dollansky and transfer to the "A" as well as the Dash. The NOS Energy Drink/Mafia Motorsports #36 would start 8th in the Dash and within the first 2 laps was up to 3rd when the Nose Wing suffered damage and would fall back to finish 5th.
Starting 5th in the "A" main saw martin slinging and fighting for position on each lap and was solidly in the top 10 and going forward. On lap 20 while coming out of turn 2 Donny Schatz would run over the right rear on the #36 causing the rear shock mount to break but ending Schatz's night. Martin tried to keep the car on the track but after 4 laps the car would not turn and had to be pushed off the track. With too much damage, Martin was forced to retire finishing a disappointing 18th.
"Yeah I am disappointed." Said Martin. "We were fast all night long and had a car definitely capable of a top 10 finish. The track was a bit rough but you could race and pretty much pass anywhere. I came out of 2 with a run and held my line and he (Schatz) must not have seen me because I felt him go over my right rear. It really didn't feel like there was any damage but on the 4th lap after the caution I about flipped in turns 1-2 and I knew we had broken that shock mount. Man the guys are giving me great stuff and these Kriner engines are making some great power. I'm looking forward to Charlotte, the more I am in the car the better it feels."
The NOS Energy Drink/Mafia Motorsports #36 Maxim will be at Eckerd Drugs located at 6824 Harrisburg Road in Concord, NC on Tuesday from 4-6pm and then head to the track for a Tuesday night practice.
