Ingersoll-Rand Announces Sponsorship Deal With Smith BETHLEHEM, PA (October 4) - In a blockbuster announcement Saturday, Ingersoll-Rand Company's Construction and Mining Group has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Stevie Smith, a top driver currently competing with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series, the country's premier sprint car racing circuit. "We're proud to become associated with such a great young driver and all-around terrific human being," Darryl Dillenback, vice president and general manager, Sales Group, Ingersoll-Rand Construction and Mining Group, said. "Stevie has a history of hard work, dedication and success, traits that are reflected in our own business. That's what makes this relationship so perfect." Smith's car will now feature Ingersoll-Rand's logo and corporate identification on the body and wings of the car, as will his racing uniform and car-transport vehicle. "Teaming up with Ingersoll-Rand as my principal sponsor is one of the proudest accomplishments of my racing career," Smith said. "The faith, respect and confidence Ingersoll-Rand has shown will drive me to keep the black #19 Ingersoll-Rand machine racing out front." In eight years, Smith has established himself as a front- runner on the World of Outlaws' tour. The 1990 Rookie of the Year has won 33 "A" Features and finished among the top five in the point standings five times. "There is plenty of marketing potential and relationship- building potential through our partnership with Stevie," Dillenback said. "He has a magnetic personality and people are really drawn to him. We plan to feature him at racing-related customer events, industry trade shows and company functions to build the bridge between him and Ingersoll-Rand." The 1998 Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series will feature approximately 70 events across the United States, with almost one-third being televised on TNN: The Nashville Network, ESPN2 and Fox Sports Net. The World of Outlaws is the fastest-growing segment of the auto racing industry in both attendance and television exposure.
