ALLEN, TX (January 18) -- The World of Outlaws Gumout Series will open its 2002 season with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series at the Talladega Short Track, series President Ted Johnson announced Friday.

In its third season, the Gumout Series will run 36 events over 49 dates, including nine in prestigious Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events.

"The Gumout Series was a tremendous success last year, and we're looking for it to improve even more this season," Johnson said. "The series provides valuable experience for the young racers. Some Gumout drivers performed well in Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races last year, including Shane Stewart who won races with both series.

"We're going to some of the tracks that have supported us through the years and we added some new ones. We're negotiating with other tracks and will add dates to the original schedule. We're glad to have the Gumout Series teams race with us at some of our televised events."

The World of Outlaws Gumout Series, directed by former World of Outlaws racer and official Rick Ferkel, will offer more than $160,000 in point fund and contingency awards. WoO
