Shaping up for 2011: Meyers is ready to defend his title as new World of Outlaws schedule is released
While most of us make the New Years resolution to get in shape, Elite Racing is already in shape from its 2010 championship season. This week the World of Outlaws released their 2011 racing schedule letting the team further prepare to defend their series crown. At a glance, Meyers has won at 21 of the tracks on the schedule and with an extended tour of the Golden State in March and April Meyers will be on point to repeat as champion.
Meyers will be kicking off his 2010 title bid on Friday, February 11 at Volusia Speedway Park. Meyers Californian fans can greet the only World of Outlaws Champion to hail from the Golden State from March 18 to April 2 as he will be racing at Silver Dollar Speedway, Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway, Thunderbowl Raceway, Merced Speedway, and Calistoga Speedway. Then Meyers will return to his home state in September as the season wraps up.
Throughout the season, Meyers will look to become a repeat winner of famed events like the Ironman 55, Gold Cup Race of Champions, and World Finals. With 12-victories last season, Elite Racing will be working on making it another career season. Meyers and Elite Racing are also closing in on their 50th victory as a team. Where and when will it happen?
"I am looking forward to 2011," Meyers said. "It felt like at World Finals we were just coming together and becoming the team we truly can be. In racing, you find that the ones that stick together and build chemistry. I am excited, because we were able to keep the team together and look to take the momentum from the end of the year on to next year. I am happy that we will be racing at so many tracks in California, some that I have not had a chance to race on in a long time. It will be a great month and it will be great to race in my home state and celebrate the championship with my great fans in California."
Meyers Selected for 2010 All- American Team
Every year the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) convene to select the best drivers in seven different categories of motorsports. This year Jason Meyers made an appearance on the second team in the short track category with fellow 410 sprint car driver Tim Shaffer.
"It is a huge honor to be selected for the All-American Team," Meyers stated. "It is great after putting so much of my life into racing to see my name included on a list of notable champions like Dario Franchitti and Larry Dixon. It is amazing the number of people who have recognized me for Elite Racing's 2010 World of Outlaw Championship and I would like to thank every auto racing writer and broadcaster who nominated me for this award."
The American Auto Racing Writer and Broadcasters Association take nominations in seven categories of motorsports and arrange them into teams. Drivers honored on these teams come from open wheel, stock car, road racing, drag racing, short track, touring series, off road & rally, and at large categories. This year there are a record breaking 21 drivers on the first team and 16 on the second team. All drivers from both teams will be honored at an awards banquet at Chip Gnassi Racing in Indianapolis on Sunday January 9, 2011.
