DOCC Motorsports to Follow World of Outlaws By Richard Day LINCOLN, NE (April 12) - The Eagle has landed ... with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series. DOCC Motorsports ended weeks of speculation Monday when it announced Johnny Herrera will continue driving the #1BK Networks Eagle with the premier sprint car series. The team originally planned to race in Knoxville Raceway's weekly program and run a limited number of Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races. "Our early season victory at Perris Auto Speedway and a solid position in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series point standings greatly influenced the decision," team owner Craig Cormack said. Herrera, the series' Rookie of the Year in 1986, has recorded five top-10 finishes, including three in the top five, during the first eight events. His fifth-place finish in Saturday's "A" Feature at Dixie Speedway pushed him into fourth place in the point standings. In addition to team's success, its ability to deal with some early problems provided the confidence the team needs to continue racing with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series for the entire season. "I'm very happy with the direction the Networks team is headed and I'm glad Craig decided to run the full series," Herrera said. "I think we have several more victories ahead of us." Cormack said the team hopes Knoxville Raceway fans understand the decision was a tough one and he looks forward to the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races at the Marion County Fairgrounds. The series' first visit to the "Home of the Nationals" is scheduled for April 30- May 1. Crew Chief Davey Whitworth and Head Mechanic Tom Baker are busy preparing for the full tour, adding additional Eagle Chassis and Klein Engines. Herrera will start outside the second row in the Channellock Dash when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series returns to Eldora Speedway July 15th. He finished fifth in the April 2nd Preliminary Feature at Eldora, then moved forward when officials detected illegal substances in Joey Saldana's fuel. After a certified laboratory completed a chemical analysis and confirmed the series' findings, Saldana was disqualified. Rain forced series officials to postpone the feature program. WoO
