Countdown to the Outlaws World Finals: 8 Days

The World of Outlaws have competed a total of 15 times at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway dating back to 2000. For each of the next 15 days leading up to the inaugural Outlaws World Finals, each of those 15 events will be recounted, culminating with the opening night of inaugural Outlaws World Finals on November 1 at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Today will focus on the eighth of those 15 events which was contested on October 6, 2001.

Steve Kinser took the lead on the opening lap and paced all 30 circuits to earn the $20,000 payday over Donny Schatz. It was the first win at the state-of-the-art 0.4-mile track for the 20-time World of Outlaws Champion, who had competed in all seven of the previous events the series contested at the facility.

Tim Shaffer was third, with Craig Dollansky seventh and Joey Saldana ninth.

Current World of Outlaws drivers that also competed in the event included: Chad Kemenah, Terry McCarl, Danny Lasoski, Jason Sides, Jason Meyers, Daryn Pittman, Paul McMahan and Jeremy Campbell.

In time trials, Jeff Sheppard set a new track record with a lap of 11.880 seconds, a record that still stands today.

The inaugural Outlaws World Finals featuring the World of Outlaws and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series are set for November 1-3, with the finale of the event set to be broadcast LIVE on SPEED on November 3 from 8-11 p.m. Eastern.
