MEADVILLE, PA - May 30, 2001 - The 2001 World of Outlaws season will see the return of one of the biggest events of 2000 - The Channellock Challenge at Bristol. This year's event will take place on June 8th and 9th at Bristol Motor Speedway. It will be televised on TNN, The National Network, both nights at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Last year's Channellock Challenge at Bristol made World of Outlaws history, as BMS converted its cement track to dirt by dumping 14,000 cubic yards of Tennessee clay and dirt on top in order to host the track's first-ever televised sprint car race. CHANNELLOCK® driver Sammy Swindell made the event a true hit for his team and title sponsor by winning an emotion-charged two-night battle. The World of Outlaws-sanctioned race drew a total of 85,000 fans in the stands and over a million TNN viewers across the nation.
The 2001 Channellock Challenge at Bristol promises even more excitement than the inaugural event. "The first Channellock Challenge at Bristol was everything we could have hoped for and more," said marketing manager John Strizzi. He continued, "The World of Outlaws, Bristol Motor Speedway and TNN made such an enormous undertaking look like there was nothing to it. The fans in the stands and in front of the television saw an amazing event. Sammy's winning the A-Feature was the icing on the cake. The success of last year will be tough to beat, but we've got a few tricks up our sleeve."
Channellock is an active World of Outlaws team and series sponsor. In addition to sponsoring three-time series champion Swindell, the company also offers the Channellock Dash, providing some of the most exciting racing each night as the fastest qualifying cars through the heats compete in a five-lap brawl to determine the starting lineup for the evening's feature race. Channellock also sponsors the Mechanic of the Year Award and serves as The Official Tool of the World of Outlaws.
The Channellock Challenge at Bristol will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 8th and 9th. TNN, The National Network will televise the event both nights beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.
