CALISTOGA, CA (September 1) -- Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series officials postponed the First Preliminary Feature of the Eighth Annual Harvest Classic Friday when inclement weather made Calistoga Speedway unsafe for racing. After rain delayed the CHANNELLOCK Dash for 20 minutes, another shower hit the semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval following the "B" Feature. The First Preliminary Feature will be run Saturday, along with the second preliminary program. Fourth NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race winner Daryn Pittman earned the right to start the First Preliminary Feature on the pole by winning his fifth CHANNELLOCK Dash of the year. Joey Saldana, who finished second, will start the 20-lap race outside the front row. Greg Hodnett and Stevie Smith will start on the second row, Sammy Swindell and Mark Kinser on the third row, Dale Blaney and Danny Lasoski on the fourth row, Andy Hillenburg and Jac Haudenschild on the fifth row, Donny Schatz and Brian Paulus on the sixth row, Ronnie Day and Johnny Herrera on the seventh row, Duane Bonini and Randy Hannagan on the eighth row, Tim Shaffer and Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series points leader Steve Kinser on the ninth row, Eric Rossi and Dean Jacobs on the 10th row, Danny Wood and Steve Kent on the 11th row and Mike Faria and Peter Murphy on the 12th row. Mark Kinser opened Friday's festivities by breaking Calistoga Speedway's qualifying standard. His 112.388-m.p.h. lap was .041 seconds faster than the record he set three years ago. Kinser received his 17th Vivarin Fast-Time Award of the season. Hodnett, Smith and Saldana won the first three NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Races. Steve Kent won the "B" Feature. Steve Smith and Devin Deluzio changed the engine in the #19 Ingersoll-Rand Black Bandit after the Second NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race, enabling Stevie Smith to finish fourth in the CHANNELLOCK Dash. Brian Paulus didn't let a flat left rear tire in the Fourth NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race stop him from qualifying for the feature. After surrendering second place, he drove the #28 Verdelli Farms Maxim past three cars within two laps to finish fifth. WoO
