Ted Johnson Passes Away

TULSA, Okla. (October 21, 2006) -- The American Sprint Car Series extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Ted Johnson, who passed away early Saturday morning after a lengthy bout with cancer.

Johnson, who united a roving band of independent Sprint Car racers to form the World of Outlaws in 1978, will forever be remembered as one of the key figures in the storied history of Sprint Car racing.

Johnson's tenure at the helm of the World of Outlaws, spanning a quarter of a century, brought Sprint Car racing to the forefront of the auto racing industry, establishing a positive direction and structure that the sport was sorely in need of. Johnson's foresight, innovations and leadership propelled the sport of Sprint Car racing and will not be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Ted Johnson.
