Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Preview: K-C Raceway

Alma, OH-- July 24, 2008--The high banks of K-C Raceway in Ohio always provide one of the most exciting races of the season for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, as was the case last season when three different drivers led laps at the 3/8-mile, with Terry McCarl ultimately coming out on top.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws will make their annual trip to the track in Southern Ohio on Saturday, July 26. The series has competed at the track for each of the last five years, with four different drivers picking up victories, led by two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz who won at the track in 2005 and 2006. Other current World of Outlaws drivers that have won with the series at K-C Raceway include Daryn Pittman and Jason Meyers.

McCarl has two career wins at the track. Along with his win last season, he was also victorious in 1999 at the high-banked facility. The native of Altoona, Iowa is a six-time track champion and the winningest driver at Huset's Speedway in South Dakota, which is a high-banked 3/8-mile similar to K-C Raceway.

Schatz became the series first two-time winner with the series at the track in 2006 and has finished first or second in each of the last three years at K-C Raceway. The North Dakota native currently leads the series championship standings on the strength of 11 A-Feature wins, along with Top-10 finishes in every race this season as he chases his third consecutive title.

Jason Meyers won at K-C Raceway in 2004 and has four Top-10 finishes at the track in his career. The native of Clovis, California has won six times this season and is second in points as he chases his first World of Outlaws title.

Craig Dollansky has four Top-10 finishes in his career at K-C Raceway. The former World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion started second last season at the track and was running in the Top-Three when engine trouble ended his night. He is currently third in championship points on the strength of six A-Feature wins.

Joey Saldana has won three times at K-C in his career and has three consecutive Top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws at the track. He heads into action this weekend fourth in championship points and has won twice on the year.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion has three wins at the track in his career, along with seven Top-10 finishes in eight starts. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has won three times this season, including the $40,000 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup last week at Lernerville Speedway. He is solidly fifth in the series standings.

Jac Haudenschild has made a number of starts at K-C Raceway in his career. He started third last season at the high-banked track in his home state before a mechanical problem ended his night early. He continues to close in on his first win of the season driving for the Carnahan Motorsports team and is sixth in the championship standings.

Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, has nine career Top-10 finishes at K-C Raceway in his career, including a win in 1993. He has five consecutive Top-10 finishes at the 3/8-mile, including a seventh-place effort last season with the World of Outlaws.

Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has nine wins in his career at the track in his home state of Ohio. He finished third there last season with the World of Outlaws and was battling for the lead on a couple of occasions. He was third last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway and also was third at the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway, as he closes in on his first win of the season.

Shane Stewart, the series top rookie in 2005 has made several starts during his career at K-C Raceway. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma is currently ninth in points and won earlier this season at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Iowa.

Daryn Pittman has won twice at the track. He was victorious in 2003 with the World of Outlaws and also in 2001 with the World of Outlaws Gumout Series. He enters the event having won two of the last four races that the series has contested. He won the Kings Royal at Eldora and followed that up with a win on the opening night of the Williams Grove Summer Nationals. He also recently moved into the Top-10 in the series championship standings.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. made his first start at the track last season during his rookie campaign with the World of Outlaws. The sophomore driver has 11 Top-10 finishes as he chases his first series win.

Kraig Kinser, the 2004 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has three Top-Five finishes in his career at K-C Raceway. The third generation driver has six Top-10 finishes this season entering competition this weekend.

Jason Sides has made a couple of starts at K-C in his career. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee who claimed the 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award, has five Top-10 finishes this season.

Tony Bruce Jr. and Chad Hillier both visited K-C for the first time last season during their rookie seasons with the series. Bruce has a Top-Five finish this season, while Hillier has picked up two Top-10 runs.

Paul McMahan raced his way into the Crane Cams Dash last season at K-C Raceway and just finished outside the Top-10. He has made a number of starts at the 3/8-mile in his career. He enters action this weekend with eight Top-10 finishes this season.

Lucas Wolfe, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season will miss the event as he continues to recover from a back injury sustained last month.

2007 Race Recap: Terry McCarl earned his second career win at the track, in a thrilling battle with Donny Schatz.

The race began with pole sitter Jeremy Campbell taking the lead, though the yellow flag flew before all the cars had completed a full lap, thus leading to a complete restart. On the second start, again Campbell again jumped to the lead in the first turn.

He would lead the first seven laps, before Schatz would take the point on the low side of the track exiting the third turn. At the same time, Chad Kemenah was waging an epic battle with Steve Kinser. Lap-after-lap the pair ran side-by-side and traded the position, with Kemenah ultimately taking the runner-up spot.

A lap 14 caution helped the rest of the field, as Schatz had been setting a torrid pace prior to that. The two-time defending series champion was also in front when a red flag occurred to allow the teams to fill the cars with fuel. On the restart, McCarl was right on Schatz's bumper and a couple laps later McCarl used the high side of the track to carry momentum down the front staightaway to take the lead.

Schatz battled back and tried both the high and low sides of the track in an attempt to pass McCarl as the laps wound down. Several times, Schatz inched ahead of McCarl, but at the line for the final eight laps of the event, McCarl was officially scored the leader.

Chad Kemenah matched a season-best finish with a third-place run, with Rob Chaney in fourth and Daryn Pittman rounding out the Top-Five.
