Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Announces 2002 Schedule

ALLEN, TX (November 12) -- First-time visits to Hollywood Hills Speedway and Sharon Speedway highlight the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series 2002 racing schedule, series Founder and President Ted Johnson announced Monday.

Hollywood Hills, a new facility already known as New Mexico's premier outdoor multi-sport and entertainment venue, will host a pair of double-feature events. Sharon Speedway, which has former Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion Dave Blaney among its owners, has taken on two single-program races.

"We're really pleased with next year's schedule," Johnson said. "We're happy that Kenn Warner and his group are building the new Hollywood Hills track near Albuquerque. It'll be a good market for us. We're also looking forward to working with Dave Blaney at Sharon Speedway."

The series will return to Joplin 66 Speedway and Powercom Park Speedway (formerly Beaver Dam Raceway) after skipping several years at those facilities. Williams Grove Speedway, where the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series race throughout its first 24 seasons, will host its first triple-program event in 2002.

The coast-to-coast schedule features 64 events over 104 dates at 42 tracks in 25 states.

The series will drop the green flag on its 25th season February 22nd at Kings Speedway, the fourth straight year the semi-banked, 1/3-mile oval has hosted the season opener. Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host its seventh consecutive season finale November 8-9.

The season's most prestigious events include the Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway (August 7-10), the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway (September 5-7), the Eagle Nationals (June 20-22), the Duel in the Dakotas at Red River Valley Speedway (July 4-6), the Harvest Classic at Calistoga Speedway (August 30-31 and September 1st), the Williams Grove National Open at Williams Grove Speedway (September 27-28), the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway (July 20th) and the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway (July 23rd).

The Pennzoil World of Outlaws will visit its birthplace -- Devil's Bowl Speedway -- for the Spring Nationals March 15-16 and the Winter Nationals October 18-19.

Dirt tracks at Speedway Motorsports, Inc., facilities Texas Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway will host a pair of double-feature events for the third straight year. The Southern Bleacher Classic is scheduled for April 5-6 and the O'Reilly Texas Showdown will be run September 12th and 14th at The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway will host the Outlaws Showdown May 24-25 and the Outlaws Championship October 11-12.
