UPDATE: Corvette Racing may take part in COTA round of the World Endurance Championship

It is believed that the team will make a rare second annual appearance in the WEC later this year.

UPDATE: Chevrolet Corvette Racing chief Doug Fehan refused to comment to Motorsport.com, but other sources have indicated to us that the project is moving ahead.

The six hour endurance race in Austin, Texas could very well have a major addition to the usual GTE-Pro lineup. It's believed that Corvette Racing will throw one of their factory C7.R's into the mix.

The team competes full time in the TUDOR United SportsCar championship, usually only showing up in WEC for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Earlier this year, they finished second and fourth in their respective class in the aforementioned endurance race.

Their 2014 season also includes victories in the TUSC rounds at Long Beach, Laguna Seca, and the six hour event at Watkins Glen. They lead the championship standings in GTLM too. The machine they would field in the six hour race at COTA normally serves as a test car for the outfit.

TUSC and WEC will both be racing at COTA and on the same day, which is certainly contributing to the decision by Corvette to take part in both races. The driver lineup and other details regarding the effort has yet to be revealed.

Of course, all this depends on whether or not they will be approved, but it was reported by SportsCar365 that they were given BoP adjustments specifc to the WEC, which suggests that the American favorite will be allowed to take part with no issues.
