The first track session of the 6 Hours of Fuji weekend took place in dry and fairly sunny conditions with the no8 Toyota TS030 of Anthony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Stephane Sarrazin setting the fastest lap of the 90-minute practice session, 0.1 seconds ahead of the no1 Audi and 0.3 ahead of the no2 e-tron quattro.
The session was interrupted by a red flag after contact between the no2 Audi of Loic Duval and no95 Aston Martin of Kristian Poulsen left the Audi stranded in an unsafe position. The car was recovered back to the pitlane and the session resumed.
The rest of the session saw times continue to improve on the 4.5km Fuji International Speedway circuit with Anthony Davidson in the no8 Toyota TS030-Hybrid taking the top spot with a time of 1m28.325.
In LMP2 it was a Nissan powered cars that led the way, with the best time set by Mike Conway in the no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca-Nissan, the Englishman setting a time of 1m33.639, 0.5 seconds ahead of the no47 KCMG Morgan-Nissan of Richard Bradley and the no49 Pecom Racing Oreca-Nissan of Nicolas Minassian.
In LMGTE Pro, Round 5 winner Fred Makowiecki set the fastest GT lap of the 90-minute session in the no97 Aston Martin Vantage, out pacing his new co-drivers Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke. The Frenchman’s time of 1m39.548 was just 0.7 ahead of the no91 Porsche AG Team Manthey 911 of Patrick Pilet and 1.2 seconds the nr99 Aston Martin of Ritchie Stanaway.
2013 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Jean-Karl Vernay was the quickest driver in the LMGTE Am class setting a 1m41.902 lap in the no76 IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche, just 0.037 ahead of the no95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage of Bruno Senna.
